Today marks the 83rd birth anniversary for the intelligent and passionate man who was first introduced to the world as a Beatle. John Winston Ono Lennon was born October 9, 1940 in Liverpool, England. His love of music began young and by the time he was 15, he had formed The Quarrymen. That is how he met Paul McCartney and later, George Harrison.

Out of the ten albums Lennon released separately from The Beatles (an 11th album, Milk and Honey, was released posthumously in 1984), half were with Yoko Ono. But the album turning 50 this year is credited to him only.

It was recorded in the summer of 1973 at the famous Record Plant Studio (where Bruce Springsteen recorded Born To Run) in New York City, the place where Lennon made his home after leaving the United Kingdom. It was released in October 1973 and was his first time as the sole producer, having previously shared that role with Phil Spector. The album went to #9 & the title track went to #18 on the Billboard charts in December 1973. More importantly, the song had the line which became synonymous with one of Lennon’s basic views on life:

“Love is the answer and you know that for sure“.

Sending “limitless undying love” across the universe to the man who gave us so much and who took a big part of our hearts when he left over 40 years ago.

Let’s Take A Moment Day 346

Hi everyone.  Hope you are all well and continue to stay that way during this global health crisis we are facing.  But in addition to protecting your physical wellness, what are you doing to stay mentally healthy today?

I know we are still facing a serious situation but a new year gives us hope for the new days, seasons, opportunities & moments ahead. Still, music is something that will never change for me. It is my refuge, the most comforting part of my life & the one thing I consistently count on. So until a more normal semblance of life returns, I am going to share a song I listen to that helps me escape the current state of things, if only for a few minutes each day. And if this helps anyone else, even better.

On February 26, 1966 Rubber Soul became The Beatles seventh #1 album in the US. It gave us classics like “In My Life”, “Michelle” & “Girl”, to name a few. But today’s song, which was written by George Harrison, is my favorite from that record. He was born 78 years ago today in Liverpool, England. Happy birthday to my favorite Beatle.

Let’s Take A Moment Day 207

I know we are in a serious situation, but I need a break from the gloom, doom and bullying by way of hoarding. Music has always been my refuge and watching those beautiful Italians singing to each other from their balconies reaffirmed my belief that music is the answer. So until the old normal returns, I am going to share a song I listen to that helps me escape the current state of things, if only for a few minutes each day.  And if this helps anyone else, even better.

Today is all about the man born John Winston Lennon on this day 80 years ago in Liverpool, England. In one decade he went from a Quarrymen to The Smart Beatle to The Walrus to simply John. In every one of those roles, he was a man who brought dreams to life. I am grateful for his words, his music, his intellect, his efforts to bring love and peace to the world and for his heart.

Lennon’s work in the later years with The Beatles & most of his solo music could best be described as introspective. He was learning about himself through spirituality, the enormity of the group’s fame, his expanding talent as a musician & as a songwriter. But to me Lennon was never better than when he embraced his rock & roll side. He did just that on a lot of The Beatles early music & with his covers of many of the songs he loved on his 1975 “Rock ‘N’ Roll” album. Today’s track is my absolute favorite rocking vocal of his with The Fab Four. Sending prayers, “limitless undying love” & thanks his way today and always.
